Building Envelope
Where you need space, KEENE has the solution. Buildings function better with a little space between the cladding and the interior sheathing. Foundations are better when the soil is spaced away from the waterproofing membrane; cedar and metal roofing last longer when a small amount of space is between them and the roofing underlayment. KEENE creates that space in an easy-to-use, economical product called an entangled net. Today, this need for a little space is well-known in the building industry.
For instance, stucco and manufactured stone can have moisture problems. The industry and certain building codes call for a rainscreen product between this moisture-absorbing cladding and the weather barrier. Single-family homes throughout the West and in the most northern climates have adopted building regulations that call for a minimum cavity thickness. The purpose of this space isn’t so much for liquid moisture drainage as it is for ventilation of incidental moisture. Incidental moisture can be caused by humidity, poor detailing, poor design or improper installation. All in, KEENE Driwall™ Rainscreen is the suspender to correspond with a proper flashing as the belt. Good additions to wall design today.
In roofing, both moisture and noise problems can be solved by creating a similar cavity in roof design. KEENE manufactures Driwall™ CDR Vent to handle the ventilation in high slope and low slope, flat roofing applications. Designed with CDR Vent, wood and metal roofing can live their normal lifespan with limited moisture problems. That same little space helps up to 10 dB in noise control from rain.
In foundations, hydrostatic pressure is the bane of below grade. The pressure buildup can find the imperfections in any membrane installation. Creating a little space between the soil and foundation solves the problem. Soil doesn’t seep at a high rate, and gallons-per-minute is not normally the quantity of problem. Still, even a few drops of moisture make living below grade impossible. Driwall™ PCD is part of the solution. We tie into the perforated pipe and eliminate hydrostatic pressure from foundations walls.
