Project Profile: Viper Vent CDR Solves Heat and Moisture Challenges in Washington, D.C. Roof Renovation

When homeowner Maarten Sengers re-roofed his Washington, D.C. home, the closed-cell spray foam beneath the roof deck created challenges with trapped heat and moisture—conditions that can shorten asphalt shingle life. Working with Hugo Roell Architects PC and Keene Building Products, Maarten installed Viper Vent™ CDR to introduce continuous airflow beneath the shingles. The result was a simple, low-cost solution that reduced roof surface temperatures by an estimated 25°F and allowed trapped moisture to escape—extending the roof’s lifespan and performance.
